As K-pop becomes more popular around the world, the proportion of English in the lyrics appears to have increased significantly. This was most noticeable with girl groups. According to Circle Chart's chief researcher Kim Jinwoo on the 31st, the proportion of English in the lyrics of girl groups' music that ranked in the top 400 digital charts in the first half of this year was 41.3%, an increase of 18.9% compared to the same period in 2018. By group, (G)I-DLE had the largest proportion of English lyrics in the first half of this year at 53.6%. This was followed by Le Sserafim at 50.6%, Blackpink at 50%, NMIXX at 49.3%, and NewJeans at 48.4%. On the other hand, the proportion of IVE's lyrics in English was the lowest at 24.9%. Is anyone else curious about stuff that gets buried by Korean fandoms before it reaches the international side? I honestly don't know how legit it is but I've always heard about k-fans doing damage control and sweeping potentially controversial issues under the rug before it gets translated blah blah.
